Reading Rock Stars in Houston

By on

On December 1, the Texas Book Festival will be in Houston for Reading Rock Stars. Currently, we are scheduled to bring six authors to Blackshear, Kashmere Gardens, Port Houston, and Cunningham elementary schools. We do not know the conditions of these schools, but we do know that many teachers, families and local resources are suffering and have lost everything. We will update this page as we get details of conditions and damage.

In light of Hurricane Harvey, we are more committed than ever to putting books back in Houston classrooms, school libraries, and in the hands of approximately 2,000 schoolchildren. As a literary organization, we are focused on continuing to follow our mission of connecting authors with readers. We believe that once the flood waters subside, it will be more important than ever for these children to have access to books and the hope, joy, imagination and comfort they provide.

We’re reaching out to our nationwide community of supporters to ask that you please allocate your annual contribution to the Texas Book Festival to Reading Rock Stars Houston. Contributions over $100 will continue to be acknowledged with a Festival Friends Pass for the Festival Weekend on November 4 & 5. Every dollar donated will go directly towards buying books for Houston students and sending authors to their schools.

Thank you!
