Sarah Smarsh

Journalist Sarah Smarsh has covered socioeconomic class, politics and public policy for The Guardian, The New York Times, The Texas Observer and many other publications. A frequent commentator on class issues in the U.S., she recently was a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Smarsh’s book, Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth, was published by Scribner in September 2018. She lives in Kansas.
