Rebecca Balcárcel serves the students of Tarrant County College as Associate Professor of English. She authored Shine On, Luz Véliz! and The Other Half of Happy, a Pura Belpré Honor Book, an ALSC Notable Book, and a silver medalist in the International Latino Book Awards. A recipient of Bennington Writing Seminar’s Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize, Rebecca’s essays, poems, and stories have appeared in magazines such as North American Review, Third Coast, and One to Know.
