Bilal Tanweer

Bilal Tanweer is a writer and translator. He was one of Granta‘s ‘New Voices’ and a recipient of the PEN Translation Fund Grant for his translation of Muhammad Khalid Akhtar’s Love in Chakiwara and Other Misadventures (Picador India, 2016). He has also translated two novels by Ibn-e Safi, The House of Fear (Random House India, 2010). He is an Honorary Fellow of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.

His debut novel The Scatter Here Is Too Great was published in India (Random House, 2013), the United States (Harper Collins, 2014), the United Kingdom (Jonathan Cape, 2014) and France (title: Le monde n’a pas de fin, Editions Stock, 2014). It is forthcoming in Germany by Hanser (2016). The novel won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize 2014 and was a finalist for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2015 and The Chautauqua Prize 2015.

He was selected as a Fellow of Akademie Schloss Solitude for 2015-2017.
