Mark Lawrence

Mark Atwood Lawrence is Director of the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum in Austin, Texas, and Professor of History at UT-Austin. His most recent book, The End of Ambition: The United States and the Third World in the Vietnam Era, published by Princeton University Press in 2021, won the Robert H. Ferrell Book Prize from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. His earlier books include Assuming the Burden: Europe and the American Commitment to War in Vietnam (University of California Press, 2005) and The Vietnam War: A Concise International History (Oxford University Press, 2008), as well as several edited and co-edited books. His essays and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Foreign Affairs, and Commentary.
