In Women’s Prize shortlister Angie Cruz’s new novel How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water, Cara Romero’s life is changed when the Great Recession kicks her out of her old job, landing her a position as a counselor. Over twelve sessions, Cara sees herself in women who have struggled in life but have remained full of light. In Don’t Nobody Give a Shit What Happened to Carlotta, author James Hannaham—Michener graduate and author of Delicious Foods, which won the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award—tells the story of Carlotta Mercedes, misunderstood her entire life, who is freshly released from a long stint in an all-male prison and must find a new life with a family that is reluctant to accept her. Together, the authors explore new journeys at midlife.
