Austin-based children’s author Carmen Oliver reads from A Voice for the Spirit Bears: How One Boy Inspired Millions to Save a Rare Animal, an inspiring true story about how one boy set out to save a species of black bear. As a boy, Simon Jackson loved the woodlands. As a teenager, he became fascinated with spirit bears, a rare subspecies of black bear with creamy white fur losing their habitat to deforestation. He decided he would become the voice for the spirit bears and founded the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition.
