In Mott Street: A Chinese American Family’s Story of Exclusion and Homecoming, Ava Chin uncovers her family’s deep and intricate roots in the United States. Tracing back to the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, Chin weaves the stories of her family working on the transcontinental railroad, facing racism in frontier towns, and migrating to New York’s Chinatown in a poignant exploration of immigrant identity and the American experience. In Generation Exile: The Lives I Leave Behind, Rodrigo Dorfman writes about being a child in exile. The son of prominent dissidents during the Chilean revolution, Dorfman details his experience bouncing between countries as a child and the struggle to find community as an adult. Join Chin and Dorfman as they discuss exclusion, history, establishing roots, and finding community as immigrants.
