After Paradise: Poetry of Displacement, Estrangement, and the Strange Self
12:30 pm - 1:15 pm
Sunday, October 27, 2019
Capitol Extension Room E2.028
State Capitol, Austin

In their most recent collections of poetry, francine j. harris and Brenda Shaughnessy consider the self made strange, the self estranged from body or place, and the poetics of searching for language from the experience of alienation. Harris and Shaughnessy’s work diverge, however, in interesting ways; Harris in the exploration of psychic dissociation and the navigation of threat, and Shaughnessy in the bewilderment of living in the midst of climate disaster.
