Antonio Ruiz-Camacho is an Austin-based writer born and raised in Toluca, Mexico. His debut collection of stories Barefoot Dogs was named a Best Book of 2015 by Kirkus Reviews. His talk is part of the Spring 2018 Joynes Reading Room Literary Speaker Series at The University of Texas at Austin.

Junot Diaz — ISLANDBORN @ BookPeople

A picture book from Junot Diaz, Islandborn tells the story of a young girl named Lola. At school, she and her classmates are asked to draw a picture of where their families are from, but Lola can’t remember where she was born, The Island. By sharing memories with her, her family and friends help her imagine the place she’s from.


The speaking portion is free, but the signing portion requires a ticket, only available with the purchase of Islandborn from BookPeople.
