We are very excited to announce the Texas Book Festival has named a new literary director! Julie Wernersbach, who served as marketing director for BookPeople for the past five years, will start her new job as the Festival’s literary director later this month.

At BookPeople, Wernersbach plans more than 300 author events each year and oversees public relations, marketing, website, and social media strategies. Working closely with publishers, Wernersbach has planned events featuring Elvis Costello, Jimmy Carter, Jonathan Franzen, Isabel Allende, Stephen King, Donna Tartt, Lena Dunham, and many others. Wernersbach was previously publicist and events coordinator for independent bookstore Book Revue in Huntington, NY.

She has a B. A. in English from Boston University. In addition to acting as TBF’s literary director, Julie is the author of the books Vegan Survival Guide to Austin and Swimming Holes of Texas (due out from University of Texas Press in 2017). Her short fiction is forthcoming in Arcadia magazine. Julie loves books of all stripes and is particularly drawn to short and literary fiction.

We can’t wait to start working with Julie, and anticipate great things for the 2016 Festival, and for ongoing literacy outreach all over Texas. Welcome Julie!
