Real Reads

About the Program

TBF’s newest outreach program, Real Reads, connects teenage students with authors that resonate specifically with them. Every participating student receives a copy of the author’s book, engages in reading and writing through peer-based book study, and connects with the author through an in-person session. Before the session, students prepare key discussion points and thoughtful questions they’d like to ask the author.

Real Reads Authors

Previous Real Reads authors include Jason Reynolds, Jacqueline Woodson, Angie Thomas, Nic Stone, Erika Sánchez, Matt Mendez, Kalynn Bayron, Sergio Troncoso, Julian Randall, Celia C. Pérez, Rubén Degollado, and Kwame Alexander.

Author Jacqueline Woodson read from her book, Harbor Me.
Author Celia C. Pérez met with students to discuss her book, Tumble.
Author Ruben Degollado presented his book, The Family Izquierdo, to readers.
