Join the Texas Book Festival Team as an Intern!

The Texas Book Festival and the Texas Teen Book Festival offer ongoing unpaid internships designed to introduce qualified applicants to editorial, marketing and publicity, and development work, and other aspects of publishing, nonprofit organizations, and event planning.

Texas Book Festival Internships

The Texas Book Festival is an independent, nonprofit organization based in downtown Austin that is dedicated to the execution of the Texas Book Festival as well as ongoing literacy outreach in Texas. The Texas Book Festival internships can range from three months to a year. Start and finish dates are flexible, though applicants who can be available during the Festival (October 27 & 28) will be given preference.  Please contact us with any questions: bookfest (at) texasbookfestival.org. 

Texas Teen Book Festival Internships

The Texas Teen Book Festival is an independent, nonprofit organization based in Austin that is dedicated to the execution of the annual Texas Teen Book Festival. The Texas Teen Book Festival internships begin March 1 and run through October 6, 2018. Texas Book Festival Programming Intern

Festival Programming interns work directly with the Festival’s literary director and staff to ensure that the Festival Weekend’s robust schedule of literary programming is executed seamlessly and that the 250+ Festival authors have the best possible experience during the Festival. Duties include, but are not limited to, communicating with authors and publicists about Festival details; logging and tracking submissions; writing blog posts on a variety of literary topics; and much more.

Texas Book Festival Communications and Graphic Design Intern

The Texas Book Festival Communications and Graphic Design intern works directly with the TBF’s Literary Director and the Communications Coordinator, as well as other team members, to create digital marketing collateral that promotes the annual TBF and its regular Festival announcements. Job duties include, but are not limited to, helping to increase brand visibility by creating engaging and creative graphics for the TBF website and social media, building and sending engaging email campaigns, designing and/or updating signs and collateral, collaborating with the TBF team on design ideas, contributing to TBF social media and other communications, and helping with various tasks as time permits.

Texas Book Festival Development Intern

The development intern will work directly with the Festival’s Development Director in assisting with development duties ranging from communication with donors, event planning, grant writing and proofreading, updating information in customer relationship database, and general fundraising.

Texas Book Festival Outreach Intern

The outreach intern works directly with the Festival’s outreach manager to assist with community outreach programs, including the Festival’s Reading Rock Stars literacy program, the Youth Fiction Writing Contest, and Texas Library Grants. Duties include but are not limited to: researching authors and community partners; assisting with the creation of curriculum guides for the Reading Rock Stars Literacy program, upkeep of spreadsheets, and writing copy for school newsletters.

Texas Teen Book Festival Social Media Intern

The Texas Teen Book Festival Social Media intern works directly with the TTBF’s public relations director and with staff members from BookPeople and the Texas Book Festival to promote the annual TTBF and its regular Festival announcements via TTBF’s active social media channels. Job duties include, but are not limited to, increasing social media visibility and brand awareness for TTBF.
