The protagonists of Devil Makes Three include an American expat forced to abandon his scuba business in the wake of political turmoil; a Haitian-American woman who stumbles upon an arms-trafficking ring; and a rookie CIA officer doing clandestine work on a dubious assignment. Fountain’s latest novel brings Haiti’s recent history to life while investigating the complex geopolitics that have impacted and defined the country.
