The diverse artist showcase includes a little bit of everything, from lyrical opera to country folk and jazz and blues. Texas Book Festival’s Sunday live music lineup features the following groups:
- Who Do, Sun. noon
- The McCain Duo, Sun. 1 p.m.
- Sarah Fox and Joel Guzman, Sun. 2 p.m.
- Kinky Friedman, Sun. 3 p.m.
- The Peterson Brothers, Sun. 4 p.m.
In addition to the incredible Music Tent lineup, there are also several 2013 Texas Book Festival authors whose recent books are about music-related topics including Elena Passarello (Let Me Clear My Throat: Essays), David Ensminger (Left of the Dial; Conversations with Punk Icons), Teddy Wayne (The Love Song of Jonny Valentine), Scott and Dean Blackwood (Rise and Fall of Paramount Records: Volume I), Carson Mell (Saguaro: The Life and Adventures of Bobby Allen Bird), Terry Teachout (Duke: A Life of Duke Ellington), and Leila Sales (This Song Will Save Your Life).
Several musicians will also be appearing at this year’s Festival as authors including: Ricardo Ainslie (The Fight to Save Juarez: Life in the Heart of Mexico’s Drug War), Lawrence Wright (Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief), Neal Pollack (Open Your Heart), and James McBride (The Good Lord Bird).
Another notable musician, Jonathan Meiburg, will be moderating one of this year’s Festival panels. Meiburg founded the American indie rock band Okkervil River and now plays in the band Shearwater, an Austin favorite. He will moderate a session called “Popular Ornithology” with author Brian Kimberling on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. in Capitol Extension Room E2.012.
