Founded in 2012, A Strange Object is a women-run, fiction-focused press in Austin, Texas. The press champions debuts, daring writing, and good design across all platforms. Its titles are distributed by Small Press Distribution.


ASF_Cover Fall2014_topressIssued triannually, American Short Fiction publishes work by emerging and established voices: stories that dive into the wreck, that stretch the reader between recognition and surprise, that conjure a particular world with delicate expertise—stories that take a different way home. Stories published by American Short Fiction are anthologized in Best American Short Stories, Best American Non-Required Reading, The O. Henry Prize Stories, The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses, and elsewhere.



The Austin Review is a nonprofit literary journal that publishes short stories and flash nonfiction online and in print. Each print issue highlights at least one author with ties to Austin.




Awst PressAWST+Press+Back+Cover endeavors to feature impressive work from diverse voices. By enlisting the help of guest curators from a variety of genres, emerging authors gain the exposure their unique voices deserve. We applaud journals that are already dedicated to publishing works from new authors, and aim to give these previously published pieces a wider audience and a longer life by republishing stories alongside an author’s new work.
