We are happy to announce the featured organizations at our Children’s Activity Tent for this year’s Festival! The tent will include a wide variety of crafts and fun, from monster bookmarks to light up picture frames and much more! We encourage everyone to bring your creative spirit and stop by to work with as many organizations as you can.


WHO: Literacy First

WHEN: Saturday 10:00-10:45

WHAT: Venture to Peru as Literacy First puts a spin on an old classic, La Princesa and the Pea. Design your own paper Peruvian blanket for yours to keep!

WHO: Latinitas

WHEN: Saturday 11:00:-11:45

WHAT: Calling all creative chicas and chicos to create and publish an original book idea for all to hear! Using media and technology tools, you will learn how to create a book abstract, record an audio podcast and share your personalized story with family and friends.

WHO: Bookspring

WHEN: Saturday 12:00-12:45

WHAT: Bookspring honors the book I Love You Like a Pig, by Mac Barnett by hosting an arts and crafts activity under the theme of “I love you like a…” Draw something or someone you love, then create a picture frame to display your artwork!

WHO: Interfaith Action Council of Central Texas (iACT)

WHEN: Saturday 1:00-1:45

WHAT: iACT’s mission, cultivating peace and respect, encourages you to come create a corner of PEACE. Learn how to write PEACE in four different languages (Spanish, Arabic, Burmese and Swahili). Craft a vibrant piece of art you can and will be proud of!


WHO: Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME)

WHEN: Saturday 2:00-2:45

WHAT: Ever heard of Flextangles? Now is your time to make your own! Flextangles, a paper folding technique, is inspired by modern spacecraft design. Learn how geometry and origami art can transform paper into a fidget spinner or a springy snake.

WHO: Austin ISD Librarians

WHEN: Saturday 3:00-3:45

WHAT: Bring your imagination to the table and create a simple origami bookmark! Make it a monster, a favorite character or anything else you can dream up to help you keep your page.

WHO: Las Comadres

WHEN: Saturday 4:00-4:45

WHAT: Sculpt your own pet inspired by Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos by Monica Brown! Mold clay into a new parrot friend, just like Frida!

WHO: Adam Rex
WHEN: Sunday 11:00-11:45

ABOUT: Join Adam Rex, author of one of our favorite and funny picture books Nothing Rhymes with Orange, to draw fabulous and fantastic fruits! Draw alongside Adam, and then follow him to his reading at the Read Me A Story Tent where he’ll read his new book!


WHO: Girlstart

WHEN: Sunday 12:00-1:45

WHAT:  What would you put on the cover of your book? Come design a personalized book cover that can light up! Build your circuit using a coin battery, conductive copper tape, and an LED light; then bring your inner artist to decorate the front of your very own book.

WHO: Texas State Libraries and Archives Commission (TSLAC)

WHEN: Sunday 2:00-2:45

WHAT: Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Come join an INK-credible craft session creating your own front-page newspaper headlines. Jumpstart your creative juices using images from the Texas State Archives or draw your own picture to accompany your sensational story.

WHO: Writer’s League of Texas’ Project WISE (Writers in Schools for Enrichment)

WHEN: Sunday 3:00-4:45

WHAT: Create beautiful art that mimics natural phenomena like snow, coral, leaves and rain with a wide assortment of watercolors and salt. Join author and illustrator Salima Alikhan for this fun, hands-on craft!


WHO: Paper Cupcakes with Kat

WHEN: Sunday 4:00-4:45

WHAT: Who doesn’t enjoy making cupcakes? Join author Kat Landtroop, writer of There is No “I” in Cupcake, to create your own paper cupcake work of art!
