The stage is set. Musical notes hang from the ceiling. A backdrop of polka dots enhances the already colorful library. A table of brand-new, autographed books sit off to the left of the stage. PreK and kindergarten students wear polka dot stickers in anticipation for Eric Litwin’s presentation of The Nuts: Sing and Dance in Your Polka-Dot Pants. The excitement around Smith Elementary is tangible.
Then, the students file in the library and get to sing and dance with the author who brought us Pete the Cat. After the presentation, each child receives an autographed copy of his newest book.
Eric Litwin isn’t the only author to participate in the Reading Rock Stars. This year 20 amazing authors and illustrators took part in the Texas Book Festival’s Reading Rock Stars program. See the full list of authors here.
Since 2001, the program has given over 65,000 books to students in Title I schools and supplied hundreds of author visits. Learn more about the Reading Rock Stars program or donate today to help the Texas Book Festival continue its meaningful work in schools.
